7 major takeaways from the Marvel Studios Phase 4 announcement

Marvel Studios on Monday evening surprised fans as it shared the first extensive look of its Phase 4 slate. The video also got many fans nostalgic as it paid tribute to their love for MCU's iconic characters, with a promise to visit them together in the near future.

While some footage and announcements had been shared previously, there were a few pleasant surprises as well, including the name of Black Panther's sequel and its release date.

The Black Panther sequel has been titled Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It is scheduled to release on July 8, 2022. The cast of the movie is yet to be announced.

The original was a massive hit and featured late actor Chadwick Boseman in the titular role.

Another novelty about the Phase 4 video was the first exclusive footage from Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloe Zhao's Eternals. The costumes looked like a mish-mash of the present and bygone eras, especially Salma Hayek's cowgirl outfit. Hayek is reportedly playing the leader of the Eternals gang who have healing powers.

We also got to see Angelina Jolie as the warrior Thena in action. Thena has the ability to forge weapons out of cosmic energy.

The Eternals happens to be the first group of superheroes/leaders who will be introduced to the MCU since 2014's smash hit Guardians of the Galaxy.

Speaking of Guardians of the Galaxy, the third volume in the franchise will release on May 5, 2023.

We also got to learn the name of Captain Marvel's sequel. Titled The Marvels, it is also said to feature MCU's first Muslim superhero, Kamala Khan. The Marvels will release on November 11, 2022.

And last but not the least, Ant-Man's tale will go forward with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. It will hit theatres on February 17, 2023.
