MEW-S-A! Hanson's Sam and Kristie Mewis collaborate with Harpoon for new beer

While Sam and Kristie Mewis put in the necessary work on the field to make the United State Women's National soccer team, the sisters from Hanson were also busy off the field leading up to the Olympics in Tokyo.

In late June, Harpoon Brewery announced it teamed up with both Sam and Kristie to create a citrus IPA beer called Team Mew-S-A. According to Harpoon, the beer is brewed with lime peel, lemon purée, and sea salt. For every four-pack sold, part of the proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Dorchester, which was the charity chosen by the Mewis sisters.
Team Mew-S-A Harpoon beer for US National Soccer team starts Kristie and Sam Mewis, of Hanson, sold at McGuiggan's Pub and Patio, 546 Washington Street in Whitman on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.

"It's an IPA so it's a little bit strong, but it's light at the same time and I just feel like it emulates who we are as players and as people," said Kristie in a video for Harpoon about the special edition beer.

Sam and Kristie, who both play in the National Women's Soccer League for the North Carolina Courage and Houston Dash, respectively, are the first pair of sisters to make a USWNT world championship roster at the senior level.

The duo will be in action when the U.S. takes on Sweden in the group stage for its first game of the Olympics on Wednesday. Start time is slated for 4:30 a.m., and while that may be a bit early to enjoy the Mewis' beer, it could serve as a celebratory drink later on.

Team Mew-S-A can be found at stores and restaurants locally, including in the hometown of the Mewis sisters at Venus III Reststaurant and Sports Bar.

"It's a citrusy, hoppy, summery IPA," Sam said. "It's definitely going to be a crushable beer for the summer."
