Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes given Man Utd penalty and set piece solution

Rio Ferdinand is 100% sure that Cristiano Ronaldo will be taking Manchester United's penalties this season ahead of Bruno Fernandes.

There has been plenty of debate about who will be on spot-kick duties after Ronaldo sealed his move to Old Trafford, given Fernandes netted 13 penalties last term for the Red Devils.

But former Man Utd star Ferdinand has a solution to the dilemma as he reflected on his former teammate's switch from Juve on his FIVE YouTube channel.

The pundit believes Ronaldo will take penalties off his fellow international star, but Fernandes will stay on corners and free kicks.

He said: "I think Bruno gives up penalties but doesn’t relinquish free-kicks and corners.

"The free-kicks around the box, he’s going to be on them I think. I think his record demands that he should do that.

"He takes the penalties, 100 per cent. They agree to give him the penalties but I think free-kicks around the box, Bruno’s just wiping the ball down and putting it down."

Ferdinand reckons Fernandes won't mind stepping aside as he'll look at the bigger picture of possibly winning silverware at the end of the season.

He added: 'I think Bruno sees the bigger picture, that this guy can get us over the line to win us trophies.

"If that means my percentage of goal involvements goes down but he gets his hands on a big trophy, he’d take that all day long."

Ferdinand was full of praise for United's other new arrival Raphael Varane who made his debut against Wolves at the weekend.

He said: "Do you know what I liked about him? The covering tackle he did when Trincao went past [Harry] Maguire on the right-hand side and he came across and blocked it.

"That is why he’s there. That exact play is why he’s there because I don’t think anyone else makes that block playing before.
